It's not really a bugfix that's being reverted, more of an optional feature. The patch enabled NetworkManager to override the server provided configuration for "split" VPN. But since it also is incompatible with the current version of NetworkManager-openconnect it wasn't a useful feature.

For those using GlobalProtect VPN which this relates to, this revert helps a 100% occurrence issue with a very common configuration.
