Mathieu, I have the same error. The nm-applet doesn't appear in the Notification Area.
I removed the Notification Area and added it before but it doesn't work.
nm-applet is running with --sm-disable.
$ ps -fax|grep nm-applet
1967 ? S 0:00 nm-applet --sm-disable
$tail -f ~/.xsession-errors
