Bug Description

Environment is Jaunty live CD on Dell Dimension with possibly suspect CD drive.

Unable to open a samba share on my LAN after putting in the details. After the first try cannot even get the Connect to Server dialogue.

System-Preferences-Network Connections gave me an empty window on trying to edit Auto eth0

Places Network brought up a window with the Windows Network icon and the error message prompting this bug report.

Firefox - LAN - router - Internet then tested and found working - so not a network problem .....

But on trying to repeat the samba connection process (to get this report detail correct) I can now make the samba connection to my (Debian) home server.

This could well be a duplicate of Bug #361115 (also Jaunty). Apologies but I feel safer letting someone who really knows make that decision.

Chris

This hardware has an undetermined but confirmed hardware fault that affects transfers from the Linux live CD. It may affect other IO processes. The hardware is sufficiently robust to be running XP-home without any issues. The CD issues are described in greater detail in Bug#366344

Please update the bug report if you are still having this problem on a newer version of Ubuntu.

Note: That the bug noted as possible duplicate seems to have been fixed since.

Can be closed - an installation issue on an old version - not seen since.

Possibly a hardware issue - the hardware concerned is no longer in use.
