If you get your hostname and domain name from the net, i.e. a DHCP server, then
any entry in /etc/hosts is outdated and should be overwritten. For this case I
still think that the order 'dns files' in /etc/nsswitch.conf is the right thing.
Proposing the change, there's time to test and eventually revert this change.
