Bug Description
Binary package hint: netbook-launcher
After install of 9.10 (karmic) netbook remix I received some error windows wich immediately disappeared again (could not read anything). Desktop is completely empty, there are no menus in the top menu line (only the ubuntu logo, but it does not work), there is not even a context menu on a right-click on the desktop. The right-hand topline icons do work (shutdown etc., date, network, battery, volume, letter icon).
Log files reveal a "segfault error 6 in libc-2.10.1.so" during startup of netbook-launcher (2.1.12-0ubuntu3).
Manually starting the netbook-launcher in a terminal window also results in "segmentation fault".
The error windows do not appear on subsequent reboots, but desktop and menus are the same. I tried reinstalling the whole system using another usb-creator tool, but without any success. I also tried to reinstall netbook-launcher and update some libraries which seemed suitable to me (I could not find the exact name libc-2.10.1.so), without success either.

Some further information:
- when using the netbook remix in live session mode I don't get any menus/icons either, but I do get a decent error message saying "sorry, netbook launcher closed unexpectedly".
- It is a dual-boot system with xp and UNR.
- I can get icons on the desktop and a desktop right-click context menu if I change the nautilus settings in the gconf-editor (icons: /apps/nautilus/ desktop/ computer_ icon_visible [ON], /apps/nautilus/ desktop/ trash_icon_ visible [ON] etc., context menu: /apps/nautilus/ preferences/ show_desktop [ON]). I still have no left-hand menus (main menus) on the top menu bar.
- In the gconf-editor, the netbook-launcher contains only a folder "favorites" with the contents "cheese", "empathy", "evolution", "firefox", "ubiquity", "ubuntuone- client- applet" , "ubuntu- software- center" , "yelp". Each of these elements consists of the two entries "desktop_file" and "type". These entries seem correct to me (example for firefox: /apps/netbook- launcher/ favorites/ desktop_ file [/usr/share/ applications/ firefox. desktop] , /apps/netbook- launcher/ favorites/ type [application]), but when highlighting them the key documentation shows an exclamation mark and states: This key has no schema. The referenced desktop files exist in the specified path.
I hope this helps.
