If you change /etc/network/interfaces, by hand or by other way (knetworkconf) network-manager does not work anymore . It wants (network-manager) a clean and emtpy /etc/network/interfaces.
This bug is similar (or the same) 172330.
I'm not a guru, but it seems as after a long time to get an IP address something (maybe avahi packages) can not permit to lease an ip address ...
