Bug Description
Normally, middle clicking a folder in a Nautilus Window will open this folder in a new tab. Doing this on the desktop, crashes nautilus, and the desktop icons does not appear until you open a nautilus window.

Many thanks for your bug report -- I'm somewhat surprised that you are apparently the first one reporting it as it is easily reproducible for me (both on 11.10 and on the current development version 12.04). I created a new bug report with additional debug information (bug #923432). For the sake of simplicity I'm marking this bug as a duplicate even though you certainly reported it first.
