when i try to open my images directory which is a really huge folder full of images and subdirectories sorted by modification date, it takes forever for nautilus to finish loading all the files and their thumbnails. while it's loading them, the already-loaded thumbnails keep moving around in every direction rendering the whole window useless for about a minute or so till it all finishes loading..
when i tried to load the same folder in thunar after sorting by modification date as well, it didn't take any time at all and the folder loaded up in a second.. the thumbnails were probably all already cached, but still that didn't stop nautilus from going crazy every time i try to open the images folder again.. |

When opening a directory full of images which are sorted by anything other than "manually" (especially modification date which seems to be the worst case) nautilus takes a very long time in the loading process because it starts sorting the files before it fully loads the file list and the thumbnails.
during the loading process, icons (thumbnails) move around in every direction because new files keep popping up in the middle of the file list which makes nautilus act crazy for about a minute or so..
i'm testing on an images directory that contains 1271 images and 79 subdirectories..
opening the same directory on the "Manually" arrangement option seems to take 3 seconds or so.. any other option makes it take longer time to complete the process..
ubuntu 8.04 and nautilus 2.22.3
