As mentioned above Tracker it is not practical to have Tracker index remote folders, (in a work environment you will get in serious trouble if pull this stunt) or your / folder..
Nautilus is a not a simple file manager like Thunar, it can open Network shares, and it would be counter-productive if one couldn't search for a file on a network drive, because of Tracker.
