It is definitely not a fresh user. The user ID that I've been using has been around for a while. (Are you thinking maybe some legacy configuration settings are causing this?)

Also, the install of 10.04 was performed via do-release-upgrade. Prior to that, I believe 9.04 was the version that I installed from scratch.
