Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a directory with a large number of image files (~500) in it and whenever I select some of the image files, the file will move to the top of the folder but remain selected. This occurs in both list and icon view modes. I will try to attach a video that illustrates my problem.

Also, I think the problem may stem from the fact that the files that get moved around are initially listed as type 'PNM image' and then get changed to a 'PPM image' when selected.

Thank you for your bug. The change is because the real type doesn't match the filename so it's correctly when you click on it and the view is reorganized. The files are not read to determine the type when opening a folder because it would be too slow. Do you have any suggestion on how it should react if you think the current one is buggy?

I think that the correct behavior would be to not rearrange the files after
their filetype is corrected. In the example video I attached, the task I was
trying to accomplish was to select a large continuous number of files in
that directory but I was unable to since each time I picked the anchor file
for a shift-click selection, it would be resorted to the top of the
directory. So for both performance and usability concerns, I think the
browser should simply sort by extension and leave it at that.
