Bug Description

Nautilus hangs each time I intend to view / change the properties of a .DNG file (raw camera data). I right-click the preview image and choose "Properties" in the contextual menu, the program hangs / crashes immediately. Apport does not appear. There is no problem when viewing properties of e.g. .JPEG files or text files etc.
I am running Unity under Ubuntu Precise 12.04.1. Nautilus manages the desktop (nautilus -n). Version of package "nautilus" is nautilus 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu4

I have added a DNG file from a Leica M9 camera. The file is not compressed and is absolutely standard on this model of camera.

Hi,
I have the same problem too.
I have DNGs created during an import of Nikon's raws (D5000). It was imported first in LightRoom 4 with the Fast Load Preview enabled.

I've checked that the same issue (nautilus hangs) occurs when trying to view / set file properties of .CR2 files (Canon proprietary raw data format). I attach a .CR2 file from a Canon EOS 1 Ds Mark III to this comment.

Same problem with DNG and PEF (Pentax); Pentax PEF attached
Ubuntu 12.04.1 / 64bit
nautilus 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu5

I ran ubuntu-bug but don't know how to add the results to this message

Somthing along the process of of setting up all of my photography applications seems to have at least alleviated this problem. I just queried repeatedly a canon CR2 raw properties and the Nautilus did not hang. There may be a work around available. I did following things that directly have affected the handling of raw files.

1. To solve the image viewer issue #967471 I renamed a file (can not remember the exact type) to .CR2 and changed the default application for Canon raw files to Shotwell. This way I was able to get the properties dialogue open.
2. Shot well did not work as I wanted so I installed Geeqie. At this point I tried changing the default application for CR2 files again and now I was able to access the file properties dialoque. I may be wrong but I suspect that the Geeqie installed exiv2 library which enabled the raw file properties querying.

I must point out that 1 and 2 are temporarly separated and I have installed many other things also during this intervall. Other softwares that may have something to do with this are
1. Libraw 0.13.8 (Compiled manually to the system)
2. Luminance HDR 2.0.2 (Compiled manually to the system,
3. sudo ldconfig was run to configure libraw location for Luminance HDR.
4. Photivo
5. Rawstudio
6. Ufraw

Could someone affected by the bug try installing Geeqie and comment if it helps?

Sorry

Have to cancel the previous. For some reason it is not 100% consistent and producible. Now the nautilus is hanging again when querying the file properties.
