I'm going to guess that there was some odd dependency thing going on, because after the post-upgrade reboot:

# aptitude full-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done

[...]

# apt-cache policy mythbuntu-control-centre
mythbuntu-control-centre:
  Installed: 0.62-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.62-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.62-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Upgrade was from Mythbuntu 8.04 (which itself was an upgrade from 7.10, IIRC) to Mythbuntu 10.04, 32-bit, via 'gksudo update-manager'.

I only created this bug because the dialog popped up and asked me to. It would be nice if the scary message didn't come up during the upgrade and it all Just Worked, but in the end it worked out fine.
