The MySQL server 5.1 in Ubuntu Lucid ships the InnoBase InnoDb plugin in /usr/lib/mysql/plugin/. Though this directory belongs to the MySQL server package it is not allowed by AppArmor. The shipped InnoDb therefore can only be loaded by adding something like:

/usr/lib/mysql/plugin/ r,
/usr/lib/mysql/plugin/ mr

to

/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld
