Comment 14 for bug 522185

here you are:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start
[sudo] password for mauri:

I've no problem with my installed mysql:

$ mysql --version
mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.37, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using EditLine
wrapper
