Hello Matt,

The only error message your logs provide is:

invoke-rc.d: release upgrade in progress, error is not fatal
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server
Upgrade process encountered error and will not continue.
mysql_upgrade failed with exit status 11
dpkg: error processing package mysql-server-5.7 (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

And some apparmor errors as well.

Can you confirm if you could restart the service after the upgrade, if it was a configuration problem or there is any other reason why the service wasn't able to start ?

I'm marking this bug as incomplete for now, but feel free to mark it as "new" again if you're able to provide us more information about it.
