According to http://wiki.apparmor.net/index.php/QuickProfileLanguage#File_Globbing, /etc/mysql/** will match any file or directory in or below /etc/mysql/. So this should work. If it isn't working for you, I suspect that you have an unrelated issue that inadvertently got fixed when you edited the profile.

We haven't had any other reports claiming this. The lack of other reports suggests to me your suggestion cannot be the root cause - otherwise every user upgrading from a customised my.cnf in Trusty would be affected and this is clearly not the case.

If you disagree, then please provide exact steps to reproduce so that this can be independently verified, and then change the bug status back to New.
