I just upgraded a machine from oneiric to precise, after which mysqld failed to start. I traced the problem to the fact that /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.myqld was missing, even though this file is by default included from /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.myqld.
A `touch /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.myqld` solved the problem.
I've never touched any apparmor configs myself, so I doubt it was due to some peculiarity in my usage of apparmor. Of course, there may have been a peculiarity during the upgrade process (didn't go entirely smoothly; i386 dependences for skype and crossoveroffice required some manual intervention).
