Sorry for the delay here, but unfortunately the work to be done in groovy updates lead to having less time to study this issue.

However, it looks like the problem is present upstream, but our patch is triggering it more.

So I've proposed a fix upstream (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1444) while the ubuntu package is in progress as well.
