on 2 installs i've done in the past 2 days (yesterday and today), after installing and apt-get'ing mplayer, it willnot play by default until I change teh video output setting from xmga (Matrox) to something regular like xv or x11. it used to default to this. This happened on 2 completel diffrent systems, with diffrent video hardware (incase tehres some sort of auto detect or something)
