Bug Description
Binary package hint: mplayer
mplayer man page suggests dvdnav support in several places (command line syntax, key bindings, -mouse-movements description), but it does not appear to be compiled in (updated Feisty). It should either be compiled in if the quality of support is sufficiently good, or removed from the documentation temporarily. Here is sample output:
sam@wildthing:~$ mplayer dvdnav://
MPlayer 2:1.0~rc1-
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+ (Family: 6, Model: 6, Stepping: 2)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 1 SSE2: 0
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.

I have the same problem.
Maybe mplayer package upgrade to rc2 would help - it includes forked version of libdvdnav
