Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

mplayer man page suggests dvdnav support in several places (command line syntax, key bindings, -mouse-movements description), but it does not appear to be compiled in (updated Feisty). It should either be compiled in if the quality of support is sufficiently good, or removed from the documentation temporarily. Here is sample output:

sam@wildthing:~$ mplayer dvdnav://

I have the same problem.
Maybe mplayer package upgrade to rc2 would help - it includes forked version of libdvdnav

Problem still present in Gutsy final.
Installing libdvdnav package does not help.

Same problem.
Installing libdvdnav4 didn't help me (too). Same thing in all mplayer packages (-nogui, gnome-mplayer and so on).

Changed in mplayer:
assignee: nobody → superm1
status: New → In Progress

1.0~rc2 has been uploaded to gutsy with support for dvdnav.

That's because it still hasn't built yet. Its waiting in line.

It looks like mplayer depends on their own fork of libdvdnav:
http://svn.mplayerhq.hu/dvdnav/trunk/libdvdnav/

Theirs differs significantly from the one in Gutsy (presumably from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvd/, last updated in 2004).

Building the latest mplayer from the trunk seemed to work fine with the default dvdnav libs in Intrepid. I do agree dvdnav support should be built into the Ubuntu mplayer.

mplayer in intrepid no longer knows how to play dvdnav://
