On Hardy with Thunderbird 2.0.0.16 (20080424).
No change on turning off the sound notification. On deleting the training.dat file, Thunderbird stopped freezing after downloading mail and instead crashed!
The window disappeared and the process terminated!!
Anyone have any other ideas?
