I opened Bug #672177 last month to see if this can be fixed. It's currently assigned to the eglibc package. Unfortunately it doesn't seem anyone is interested in resolving it. I'd like to stress that it appears EVERYONE who installs 10.04 or 10.10 will have this issue eventually when they update their packages and a libc update is included.
