It looks like this bug is affecting me too. I have the same graphics chip. I've tried Leann Ogasawara's v1 kernel with no change. (and various other things, chronicled in bug 499399.)
Blacklisting viafb means I can now boot with a Lucid kernel (after 3 1/2 months of frustration).
Many thanks to whoever discovered the blacklist viafb option. I thought I was going to have to find another distro, which I didn't actually want to do.
