Bug Description

Binary package hint: modemmanager

With Ubuntu 9.10 my system was suffering from the bug reported here (bug #506620):

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/506620

With Ubuntu 9.10 I had to reboot the system several times (sometimes also 12 times) before the modem could work. After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.4 (which was supposed to fix that bug) my modem is no longer working.

Using dmesg I can see a modem is found and connected to ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, as usual, using lsmod I can see that 'option' module is there but the UMTS modem doesn't appear neither in the network manager applet nor using 'nm-tool' or 'ifconfig'.

I have rebooted several times having always the same result.

Attached you find output from dmesg, lsmod and nm-tool.

Ciao,
Max

I solved the problem, thanks to Peteris Krisjanis from the Gnome Network Manager mailing list, by adding a line "option" to /etc/modules.

I don't know if this is a solution to the problem reported or just a workaround, but it works.

Max

No, it doesn't work.

It worked yesterday in the evening and today in the morning, now my modem is lost again.

I rebooted six times without any success.

Max
