Chris,
the problem here is that what's on the official Ubuntu repositories is crashy and buggy I've updated from the official Miro repository and been crash free ever since.
$ apt-cache policy miro miro: Installed: 1.2.8-0pcf1 Candidate: 1.2.8-0pcf1 Version table: *** 1.2.8-0pcf1 0 500 http://ftp.osuosl.org intrepid/ Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.2.6-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/universe Packages
Maybe this bug should be morphed into a back-port from Jaunty http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/miro to Intrepid, that should close this bug IMHO
