Bug Description

When the main Gnome menu is open (the equivalent to the 'Start Menu' in Windows), the Alt-Tab shortcut window switcher fails to work. I don't know if this is by design but there seems no good reason for this to be the case, and it has hit me a few times - usually when looking for an item in the menu, and Alt-Tabbing back to a webpage to double-check something.

Using Intrepid on an Asus eeePC.

Hello!

Have you enabled compiz on your system?

Hi
I'm fairly sure I haven't, as it's low-end laptop and would probably drive the performance down too much. Is there an easy way to check?

In Appearance Preferences, Visual Effects is set to 'None', if this is the correct setting?

The easiest way I know is running "ps aux|grep compiz.real" and check if
compiz.real is running.

Anyway I've tried to reproduce this issue with both compiz active and
without it and I can confirm that the window switcher doesn't appear.

For this reason I'm going to mark this report as confirmed, changing the
title because this is a wishlist bug and moving in to gnome-panel
package but I'm not sure that this is the best place for this report,
though!

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better!

Many thanks for the help confirming this! For information, this is the result of the compiz check you described:

~$ ps aux|grep compiz.real
ad 26102 0.0 0.0 3240 808 pts/0 S+ 21:39 0:00 grep compiz.real

I hope the Gnome team are able fix this simple problem :)

Happens with any open menu , including the Main menu.

This applies to any multimedia keyboard buttons, so if i want to turn the volume down with the media button while a menu is open it wont work just like any keyboard shortcuts.
