Rounded corners for some apps on maximised windows mean you close the app behind by mistake!

Bug Description

Binary package hint: metacity

Scenario:

- You are using the default Ubuntu theme, which has rounded corners for windows
- You have a maximised window for application A and, in front of it, a non-maximised window for application B which is positioned in the top right corner using the neat sticky/snap-to feature
- You smash your mouse into the top right, taking advantage of Fitts Law, and click to close application B

Expected: Application B closes
Actual: Application A closes, because the corners are rounded and so you actually hit the close button of the application behind!

This is really counter-intuitive. If you want to have rounded corners, fine, but you need to keep the target area for the close button the same, and square. It's caught me enough times now that I've switched to UbuntuClassic, which doesn't have rounded corners.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

This bug is still present in Intrepid, because non-maximised windows still have rounded corners in the default Human theme.

I can confirm this in Intrepid, I was about to report it myself.

This is especially annoying when you resize non-maximized windows to fill the whole screen (for example as a workaround for bug #344144). These windows appear similar to maximized windows except for the tiny rounded corners, but trying to close them the usual way will result in another window being closed.

This bug is no longer relevant now the close box has moved, and is no longer in a sensible Fitt's Law position :-|
