Maps disappearing when zooming in on google earth

As Edu pointed out on bug 71364, since an upgrade to feisty, zooming in below a certain distance causes the map to disappear, being replaced by some kind of fog.

I can confirm the issue, since I get exactly the same thing shown on Edu's screenshots.

I can contribute this link* which seems the same problem in i945. According freedestkop's bug, the issue is solved, at least in development branch.

seems that it isn't solved yet, there is no patch or anything. Someone just messed up with bugzilla ;)

a workaround is disabling the atmosphere in google earth, but of course it's not really a solution :)
