I could fix this problem by removing xserver-xorg-video-* except ati/radeon/modesetting.
Now I can reproduce the bug by installing xserver-xorg-video-vesa, so I suppose this is caused somehow by incorrect module initialisation. Looking at Xorg.0.log doesn't give me a hint, though.
I attached Xorg.0.log_noerror (xserver-xorg-video-vesa not installed)
and Xorg.0.log_error (xserver-xorg-video-vesa installed)
