I finally got around to doing some upgrades on my fileserver. Thought about switching back to debian, but I thought for now, I'll just get my mdadm package working again properly on lucid.
binaries for x86 are there.
you can build from source with dpkg-source -x mdadm_3.1.4-1.dsc then cd to the folder and dpkg-buildpackage
I have only tested this on a virtualbox setup, as I've not yet finished my upgrade. I include changes from lucid mdadm (2.6.7-1ubuntu15). the map file is solved now in mdadm itself as by default it chooses /dev/.mdadm as a location to put it which is available throughout the boot process.
No warranty with this of course, but I hope it is of some use.
