I hate to repeat things and sound like a screaming lunatic, but this is the argument for syncing maven NOW instead of AFTER release:
YOU CANNOT RUN THE MAVEN INCLUDED IN KARMIC.
This package is BROKEN. If you do not either sync from debian or revert libplexus there will be NO use for having a maven2 package in Karmic at all - you might as well just drop the package entirely rather than give the false impression that you have an (old but working) version in the software repo.
