The very first line returned by the first test led to the solution: I had an old 42-madfuload.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d that overrode the new one in /lib/udev/rules.d. Deleted it, now it works! Sorry for wasting your time by being so stupid.
There is a slight problem remaining, however. The Transit works only once, if I want to use it again after unplugging it I have to reboot:
1. Boot system
2. Plug in Transit: works
3. Unplug Transit
4. Plug in Transit (no matter which USB port): does not work
5. Reboot system
6. Plug in Transit: works
