Bug Description

Binary package hint: lxkeymap

When you choose a new layout, the setting is correctly set, but it's not saved when the system is rebooted.

Setting to confirmed.

The lxkeymap code does not currently attempt to save the settings, as far as I can see.

Specifically, the ok method in PreferencesLxKeymapDialog.py does nothing at all. It may have been created by some sort of code skeleton generator, and then not completed by the programmer? I have no idea whether this is deliberate, and I am misunderstanding the code, or whether this was an oversight.

Where *should* these keyboard mapping settings be being saved? Are they to be system-wide, or per-user?

The keyboard layout management seems to have changed in Natty. I think it should be saved in /etc/default/keyboard, but I don't know if there is an automatic script which update automaticly this file.
If we want only a per-user setting, saving this configuration in a ~/.dmrc file could be a solution.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

updates the /etc/default/keyboard file.

I tried on Ubuntu, and there is the same problem. If I try to switch the layout using gnome utility (switching from FRA layout to USA layout only), when I reboot the layout selected in the indicator is USA, but when I type in a terminal, it's FRA which is used (and which is the one in /etc/default/keyboard).

Can someone confirm this is being seen with Lubuntu 12.04 alpha?

For today it still does not work (Ubuntu 12.04 64bit) - with every restart on morning I have my lovely 10 minutes with setting keyboard layout from the scratches.

Ubuntu does not allow you to be bored!
