I ran into a problem dist-upgrading from lucid to maverick where the installation of lubuntu-default-settings crapped out. The problem I believe was that lubuntu-default-settings did not know how to handle a preexisting /etc/default/lxdm.conf file. Deleting the file fixed the problem and the install completed.
