Looks like lxqt-session 1.3.0-0ubuntu3 is in unapproved. It fixes the above problem by:
 1. seeding xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
 2. setting "default=lxqt;kde;gtk;"

What I find curious is that the app chooser provided is the gtk one, not the kde one.

FWIW, the output from XDP is the same as above.
