OK.
On server:
$ cat /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf
[default]
 XSERVER=intel
 SCREEN_02=shell
 SCREEN_07=ldm

Rebooting client, and I get the /var/log/Xorg.6.log attached.
