At present we only list countries; iso-codes classifies Kosovo as a "country subdivision", which is why Kosovo currently isn't included.

Changed in ubiquity:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Triaged

Kosovo is in the process of getting the code. It has asked for RKS, which should be used for the time being.

"RKS" is good for ISO 3166-1 alpha-3.

We also need a two letter code for ISO 3166-1 alpha-2.
The following two letter codes are available on the ISO.ch site: KO, KS and KV.

I have suggested Microsoft, wxWidgets and other groups to use KV until the official code is selected and assigned to Kosovo.

Also, the US and Japan gvmts are using the KV code for Kosovo until ISO assigns one.

I'd semi-quote another bug report in KDE: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=303942

"I believe there is a strict policy in this regard of only implementing support for countries that have a) been recognised by the UN or b) had a Country Code issues by the ISO."

Instead of trying to add Kosovo separately in each distro, I would suggest filing an inclusion report at ISO or UN in order to get recognized properly. Until then, I think this is not a proper way to add regional info specifically for each Linux distro.

Thanks for posting in a 6 year old issue. Kosovo has a ISO code now, XK, but I don't think its UN recognized.
The issue is still valid though, I suggest to add a section "Disputed Countries" or similar since we are real people with real localizations. Everytime that I install Ubuntu for myself and others I have to do some localizations which others get during install.
