by request from Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), a new bug report for bug 651008 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/651008), which was set to Won't Fix since reported on Maverick, which reached EOL on April 2012.

problem still exists in fresh 12.04 install.
