Hi Christopher. Unfortunately I can not test this issue anymore, because I got an other model from retailer because of hardware problems.

I too was running Ubuntu 11.10 before upgrade to 12.04, so as Jussi Palomäki wrote, this problem seems to be related to memory controller and was revealed when using old kernel.

At least there seems to be a workaround available: open the case and unplug the battery.
