Same problem on Mint 14 KDE (based on ubuntu 12.04),
Using a HP 550 laptop.
Shutdown results in end logo showing... indefenitly.

I am not using nvidia drivers btw, i got one of the crappy intel chipsets.

However, on my main system i dont have a problem with any ubuntu build.
I'm suspecting some sort of incompatability.
