I'm happy to announce that Cypress has provided us with an alpha driver for the Cypress PS/2 Trackpad. Thanks also to Dell for working with Cypress to get this developed and delivered to us. I have tested the driver on the Dell XPS 13 -- it works quite well.

The new Cypress driver is now available in my Ubuntu Precise DellXPS PPA (this kernel should work fine for other machines with the same Cypress trackpad as well; the original driver patch from Cypress is also available from this link):
