Applied and tried.
This looks like correct behaviour:
[tim@groke ~]$ /usr/bin/flock ~/tmp/spon echo Fish
flock: /home/tim/tmp/spon: Bad file descriptor
(flock() should never have worked, really :-)
I will try this out with my original kmail problem when I have access to that desktop again in a few hours.
