All the fn+f1 to f12 combos don't work but the sound up/down do work but they are on keys 3 and 4, it seems to only affect F-keys so can't control crucial stuff like brightness. And yes I did install the proprietary nvidia driver.

fn+f6 & fn+f7 doesn't let me decrease/increase the backlight/brightness, only after putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up again does the backlight bar actually appear when I hit fn+f6 but it still doesn't decrease the backlight. The symptoms appear to be exactly the same as this other slightly older toshiba model posted here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/850065 |

First Issue:
Fn+f6 & fn+f7 doesn't let me decrease/increase the backlight/brightness, only after putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up again does the backlight bar actually appear when I hit fn+f6 but it still doesn't decrease the backlight. The symptoms appear to be exactly the same as this other slightly older toshiba model posted here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/850065
UPDATE: Heres a way to turn down the backlight https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/934095/comments/34
Second issue: There appears to be a problem with how Ubuntu controls the fan on this laptop. Every time you start a flash video in firefox or even do some minor things the fan starts going to a higher speed, for testing purposes I have also tried doing the same things in Windows 7 and the fan doesn't increase it's fan speed like it does with Ubuntu. |
