Took me a long time but finally got to testing this.
In the v3.3-precise kernel the native resolution IS detected in System Settings > Displays, but I cannot apply any changes from there.
Using `xrandr --auto --output DP1 --mode 1920x1080 --right-of LVDS1`
Does work however.
