Bug Description

Found on daily Precise Desktop images for 2011-11-29
Kernel: 3.2.0-2-generic

Systems having issue:
Dell Vostro 3400
Samsung N 150
Acer D255
Asus Ee pc 1001px

Steps:
1 Image is mounted locally and then NFS mounted

2 Kernel boot line set to use NFS boot:

nfsroot=192.168.22.2:/opt/bootspeed/mounts/asus-1001px/ubuntu locale=en_US netboot=nfs boot=casper priority=critical automatic-ubiquity

3 PXE boot the system with kernel and initrd (using Orchestra, so the paths get appended to the boot line)

Expected:
Ubiquity preseed starts to install (as it did with previous daily images)

Actual:
Kernel panic error is encountered - system is completely locked

I am not familiar with submitting kernel panic bugs, and I know I'm missing pieces. Please let me know what further information is required.

Brad Figg (brad-figg) wrote : Missing required logs.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. From a terminal window please run:

apport-collect 897866

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Did this just start happening on the build today and prior builds did no panic?

It would be great if you can run the following on that machine:
apport-collect 897866

Brad Figg (brad-figg) wrote : Test with newer development kernel (3.2.0-2.5)

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

I am unable to run any commands or even get to a VT when I attempt to netboot as the system completey locks. The systems are running a daily image that is older (not sure exactly the date.) I will run apport-collect for those systems now.

Patrick Wright, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, just to be clear, what system(s) receive a panic, just the Dell Vostro, or all 4 clients listed in your Bug Description? If you are having the problem on more than one system, could you please file one report for each client by executing the following via a terminal, and feel free to subscribe me to it:
ubuntu-bug linux

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
