I just tested the release version of Quantal Quetzal 12.10 (3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux) as a live session. The sound was ok, but closing the laptop's lid (without suspend option) and after opening it and going to tty1 caused playing the music to jam as described above. Suspend itself seemed to work, as I later tested it.
So what about tagging this as kernel-fixed-upstream-3.5.0-17?
