Bug Description

Using a LENOVO G570 laptop with Ubuntu desktop 11.04 I am not able to detect an SD card. The same SD card is detected on my Aspire Acer One Netbook using Ubuntu 10.04 Remix. The same SD is detected using the same LENOVO G570 laptop and the Windows 7 operating system. (My LENOVO G570 is a dual boot system.) I'm a beginner. I'm almost finished my basic Ubuntu course online.

Thanks much,

Will

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for such a quick response. Sorry I couldn't get back to you
sooner. I'm going to have to do more studying of Ubuntu before I work with
"upstream kernels" and "tags". I'm not exactly comfortable with selecting
and installing a mainstream kernel. I'm a little worried about what it
might do to my current Operating System. As for "tags" I'm not familiar
with them. I don't know what they are or where they are.

But I thank you again for your quick response. Let me study up some more
before getting back to you.

Thanks again,

William

Hi Philippe,

Thanks for your quick response. Sorry i could not get back to you sooner.

I accessed the link you sent me but I still need to learn more about Linux
before I can understand that material. I don't know if my bios version is
moded or not. Again more study time for me.

Thanks again,

William

hi,

If you trust me , I built and published a custom kernel,
just clicking on linux-image*.deb should work

http://rzr.online.fr/h/volatile/pub/file/

In return I would appreciate if you can provide those requested data to improve support :

https://bugs.launchpad.net/lpbugreporter/+bug/752542/

Also If you figure out how to backup your bios this may help others too :

Stay tuned

I not sure there is no usb=0bda:0139 in
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/83494445/Lsusb.txt

but maybe a duplicate of that one :

Note can you upload your bios backups at :

William Singiser, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
