Me too, Claudio: Updating to the latest Kernel 3.0.0-14-generic for 11.10 / official Ubuntu (64bit, running on mains, ie plugged in) gets rid of both the locked-to-dim state after being idle for a while and the reverse brightness problem after being idle for a few seconds.
