Crash to black screen when removing usb disk drive

This problem occurs with linux-image-generic-pae 2.6.32.33.39 but not with linux-image-generic-pae 2.6.32.32.38

A USB disk drive is inserted. When attempting to safely remove the device, the machine crashes to a black screen with only the mouse arrow visible at the last position it was. The system is unresponsive and must be rebooted.
